Mitzi Gaynor Auctions Bob Mackie Costumes

A selection of Bob Mackie’s over-the-top costumes and sketches for the triple-threat singer, dancer and actress Mitzi Gaynor is being auctioned at Julien’s Auctions online until May 10. In conjunction with the online auction, The Museum of Television & Radio is hosting an exhibit in its Bell Family Gallery featuring 26 of the costumes and a handful of matching sketches up for sale. Titled “Mitzi by Mackie,” the exhibit includes sparkling ensembles designed by Mackie that Gaynor wore for various television specials from 1968 to 1978. Among the sequins-and-bead–saturated creations is a nearly 8-pound yellow gown embellished with bugle beads and rhinestone crystals that Gaynor wore in the NBC television special “Mitzi” in 1968. The costumes and sketches will be on display at The Museum of Television and Radio at 465 N. Beverly Dr. in Beverly Hills until May 6. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Professional Dancers Society. For more information regarding the auction, visit www.juliensauctions.com. —Rhea Cortado
