PAD System Acquired by Distributor

Montreal-based CAD/CAM company PAD System Technologies has been acquired by its main distributor in Asia for an undisclosed sum.

Hong Kong–based Modular Computer System Ltd.(MCS), PAD’s top distributor since 1992, acquired all rights to PAD’s pattern-making and 3-D design software as well as all intellectual property, including the company’s trademarks, Web site and domains from LaSalle College Group, PAD’s holding company.

MCS will maintain the PAD brand and product line going forward and will continue to be the main distributor in Asia while LaSalle’s subsidiary, GCL Distribution, will become a distributor for PAD outside in the United States and other non-Asian markets.

“Partners and customers of PAD will continue to benefit from the industry focus, product- development investment, professional services and support capability and commitment on making business even more successful in the future to come,” said Gerald Me of MCS and Jacques Marchand of LaSalle in a co-written statement.

The company will move all development to China, which will speed up product development and research and development, said Marchand and Me.

Eric Tang, director of MCS’s subsidiary, will handle PAD operations in Asia.

LaSalle, which originated from LaSalle College in Montreal, is a privately owned holding company with subsidiaries in software development, consulting services, human resources, real estate and education. MCS is a multi-line technology company that distributes ERP software, Kuris cutting machines and Nhega digitizers.

PAD was founded in 1988 and markets and develops software for pattern-making, marker production, plotting and design.

Vice President Kristine Gloviak, who is based in the California Market Center in Los Angeles, will remain PAD’s lead executive for U.S. sales and implementation. For more information, visit www.padsystem.com. —Robert McAllister
