Stylish Community Showroom

Gerry Building Suite 205(213) 623-2005

Korean apparel maker GNCO quietly opened its showroom in the Gerry Building earlier this year to establish its U.S. headquarters for its Thursday Island and Island Style brands.

Already established in Korea, the contemporary lines are carried domestically in specialty chain and catalog Anthropologie, as well as at boutiques, including Planet Blue in Santa Monica, Calif.

Thursday Island is the showroom’s largest line, with a full collection of contemporary women’s apparel, including dresses, skirts, jackets, sweaters, knit tops, shoes and accessories. Sales Manager Joanne Torrone describes the line as “very urban vintage.” Thursday Island’s sister line, Island Style, has a similar look but is tailored for a more upscale, sophisticated consumer.

Wholesale prices for the line range from $30 to $38 for T-shirts and from $40 to $115 for the rest of the pieces in the collections.

Since opening, the showroom has served as a home base for Torrone and sales associate Jessica Burzlaff as they took the line on the road to show retailers. Stylish Community will be open for the Aug. 10–14 Los Angeles Fashion Market, although the official U.S. debut of both lines will come later this month and next.

“We are launching at Project [Global Trade Show] and [Fashion] Coterie, and from there we’ll start busting it out,” said Torrone, who most recently worked in sales at Ed Hardy but describes her background as covering “every facet” of the industry. T

he showroom also carries GNCO’s Eloq line of urban streetwear for men and women, although Torrone has yet to begin the full domestic rollout of the collection.
