Smile, Happy Is in Pacific Palisades

Pacific Palisades is one of Los Angeles’ wealthier neighborhoods, where the median household income is above $131,000 and the median home price is $1.3 million, according to Home Insight, a Los Angeles–based real estate research company. The neighborhood is the address to just a few fashion boutiques, including veteran shops Elyse Walker, Boca and Boca Man. Now, novice retailers Lori Bzura and Dawn Baker are working to give Pacific Palisades’ retail a bit more fashion depth.

Bzura and Baker held a grand-opening party Nov. 15 for their fashion boutique, Happy LA, located at 542frac12; Palisades Drive. It is the lone fashion boutique on the commercial street and is flanked by two restaurants.

Happy’s initial game plan is to sell casual, elegant fashions to Palisades women. Price points range from $22 for a T-shirt to $600 for a necklace. Brands offered are American Vintage and Aussie label Kite and Butterfly, as well as Velvet, Genetic Denim and Graham & Spencer.

The 1,065-square-foot store hopes to live up to its name through its cheery deacute;cor. The floors are painted turquoise blue, and the wall features a mural that bears the slogan “Happy is hellip;”

Baker worked as a stylist for “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2005 and 2006. Bzura was a production coordinator for fashion-obsessed show “Sex and the City.” For starters, they hope to serve fashion in their neighborhood. In the future, they’d like to open stores across the nation. —Andrew Asch
