Friday, January 26, 2007

Action-sports brand Quiksilver is entering the world of wearable technology. The Huntington Beach, Calif.–based company is teaming with Santa Cruz, Calif.–based audio-electronics company Plantronics to market a line of wireless Bluetooth-enabled apparel and accessories.

The company debuted the line at the SIA show Jan. 22–25 in Las Vegas.

The collection integrates Quiksilver products with Bluetooth-equipped mobile phones, iPods and MP3 players, so targeted users such as skiers and snowboarders can enjoy their sports without worrying about dangling electric cords.

Items in the line include the Quiksilver men’s “Double Daffy Snow Jacket,” featuring Plantronics’ stereo sound and voice technology; the “Pulse” helmet, with stereo sound and voice technology; the women’s versions, featuring the “Roxy Teen Angel Snow” jacket with stereo sound and voice technology; and the “Roxy Shiver” helmet, featuring sound and voice. The products are priced to retail from $249.95 to $370 and will be delivered for the 2007 Back-to- School season.

“Our company has always sought new and innovative ways to enhance the outdoor lifestyle, and integrating Plantronics’ technology into our products is a great way to do that,” said Quiksilver Chief Executive Officer Bob McKnight in a statement.—Robert McAllister
