Active Ride Sets Moving Day

Active Wallace Group, which operates about 20 Active Ride skate/surf shops across Southern California, is moving its Inland Empire headquarters from Ontario, Calif., to Mira Loma, Calif.

Company executives have signed a 10-year lease for a 103,000-square-foot building at 12087 Landon Drive off Interstate 15, according to real estate brokers who handled the transaction. The facility will be the new North American headquarters for Active, which plans to move in January 2008.

Active currently operates out of three buildings totaling 65,000 square feet in Ontario. Active sells skate, snow and surf apparel and equipment from RVCA, Billabong, Matix, Vans and other brands. The company was looking for a larger facility to consolidate its operations.

In addition, the company is on an aggressive growth track and plans to open 22 stores over the next 18 months, said Randy Lockhart of Grubb & Ellis, which represented Active in the deal. Terms of the lease were not disclosed. The new building has strong visibility off I-15, said Lockhart.

In addition to its bricks-and-mortar presence, the company claims it has the largest Web presence of any action-sports retailer with its e-commerce sites (www.activemailorder.com and www.amogirls.com). The company was founded in 1989 by John Wallace.
