American Apparel Realigns IT

Los Angeles–based American Apparel has overhauled its information-technology platform with new enterprise software from the Microsoft Corp. The company has an 800,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in downtown Los Angeles along with 14 distributors and more than 100 retail units.

With its growing network, the company was in need of a new software platform to connect all of its remote locations into one network.

American Apparel decided to use Microsoft Dynamics AX, which is being installed by Microsoft affiliate Sunrise Technologies. Microsoft Dynamics AX will allow American Apparel workers to communicate in real time. It has integrated financials that eliminate duplicate data entry, is designed to fit into a manufacturing environ ment with multi-language support and multistorage capability, and is built on an open-source development environment.

American Apparel’s information-technology director, Jeff Kolb, said the company needed a flexible, scalable and versatile system.

“We believe that AX will be a cost-effective platform to further streamline our business and support future growth,” said Kolb. “We liked the road map presented to us by Microsoft as well as their official support of partners devoted to providing industry-specific solutions. The team at Sunrise Technologies showed deep industry knowledge and was always willing to back up their promises with detailed demonstrations, creating confidence and enthusiasm in our users. We believe that AX will be a costeffective platformto further streamline our business and support future growth.” —Robert McAllister
