Rodarte Receives Second CFDA Nomination

The Council of Fashion Designers of America announced its 2007 Fashion Award nominees in New York on March 12.

For the second time in as many years, Pasadena, Calif.–based designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte have been nominated for the Swarovski Award (formerly called the Perry Ellis Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent) for womenswear. Rodarte, which is known for delicate, light-as-air dresses and gowns, has stiff competition for the award. Also nominated are Phillip Lim, for 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Thakoon Panichgul, for Thakoon. Lim, now based in New York, was one of the founders of Los Angeles–based contemporary brand Development. Last year, the award went to New York designer Doo-Ri Chung.

Oscar de la Renta, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough for Proenza Schouler, and Marc Jacobs for Marc Jacobs are nominated for the Womenswear Designer of the Year. Ralph Lauren, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright for Rag & Bone, and Italo Zuccelli for Calvin Klein will compete for the Menswear Designer of the Year award. The Accessory Designer of the Year nominees are Jacobs for Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and Derek Lam. The Swarovski Award for Menswear nominees are Rag & Bone, Michael Bastian and Tim Hamilton. Justin Giunta for Subversive Jewelry, Jessie Randall for Loeffler Randall and Anna Sheffield for Bing Bang will compete for the Swarovski Accessory Design award.

Winners will be announced later this year at the CFDA’s 25th annual awards dinner in New York. —Erin Barajas
