The Houses That MAGIC Built

The MAGIC Marketplace’s February opening-night party–cum–fund-raiser reached its projected fund-raising goal and then some, show producer MAGIC International announced. The Mardi Gras–themed event raised $150,000—double its projected goal—to benefit the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity, which builds homes for families displaced by Hurricane Katrina two years ago. Funds were also collected on the show floor and at a silent auction.

“MAGIC’s initial goal was to raise enough money to build one house in New Orleans, but thanks to our loyal exhibitors and retailers, we have exceeded expectations, helping two families,” said Chris McCabe, the show’s vice president and general manager, in a statement. Construction on the two MAGIC-funded homes is set to begin later this year. —Erin Barajas
