L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Pudel

Lina Ouml;sterman hopes to join the emerging pool of Swedish-born designers such as J. Lindeberg, Nygauml;rds Anna and Anna Holtblad, who have made inroads on the international fashion scene. The designer, who now lives in London, was an apprentice for renowned Danish designer Jens Laugesen. Ouml;sterman’s Pudel label debuted March 15 during Kitten Fashion Week at The Standard Downtown.

Now in its second year, Pudel is making progress, opening a New York showroom and gaining accounts in New York and Los Angeles. For her Borderline02 collection for Fall, the young, platinum-haired designer showed her interpretation of neo-grunge, featuring a range of dark-hued knits, denim and T-shirts, all form fitting and rampant with cut-outs, slashing, nipping and tucking.

Standouts included her slashed cardigans, double-layer knit tops and fitted shirts. Ouml;sterman aims for an androgynous, European look, influenced by deconstructionism and practical Scandinavian design. Save for some short dresses, there’s minimal femininity and mostly a rock ’n’ roll ambiance. —Robert McAllister
