The big windows and the loft-like space at the Gerry Building were a big draw for the sales staff that works at Larry Hansel Clothing in Commerce, Calif.

The showroom used to be located at The New Mart. But when Hansel sold his Rampage brand in 2005 to Iconix Brand Group Inc. in New York, a lot of changes occurred at the company.

Hansel’s company still designs and manufactures the Rampage label for Iconix, but it also has a number of other labels, which is where the showroom move comes in.

Last year, Hansel bought Grass, a contemporary denim line, moving that label into his New Mart showroom. So last October, the sales reps for Rampage moved from The New Mart over to the Gerry Building, which had the perfect ambience for their lineup of juniors and missy clothing. “Larry said, ’I think this will fit. I think it has a lot of character,’” recounted Alyssa Knowlton, one of four sales representatives who will be working out of the showroom.

They have a cavernous space, with raw cement floors and open ceilings. There is plenty of space to hang the various labels they represent. Besides the well-known juniors label Rampage, they also represent Love Tease, a juniors line; Roulette, a missy label; and a recently purchased label called Indi.

The showroom is conveniently located down the hall from the Mimi Chica space, which also opened in the building last October. The juniors line was launched seven years ago by the husband-and-wife team of Paul and Michelle Spoleti. They formed a business partnership last October with Hansel.—Deborah Belgum
