L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Monarchy Collection

Monarchy Collection made its debut on the runway on March 21 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif.

The collection, known for its edgy tees, premium denim and blazers, has expanded into a full line. “I think it was just the next step for us,” said founder Eric Kim of the decision to show on the runway “It was a big jump, but I think we were ready for it,” he added. The show, titled “Oxford Circus,” included men’s and women’s clothing ranging from casual raw-edged tees and denim to military-inspired outerwear, prep-school looks and sexy rock ’n’ roll styles.

The collection had a very raw-edged and distressed look but was mixed with formal classic shapes. An argyle sweater was paired with a luxe wool trench coat and jeans, and a military jacket was distressed and pieced with leather to add a couture finish. Women’s looks had a tomboy edge with a sexy twist—army-inspired jackets paired with mini skirts, a pin-striped pant with an off-the-shoulder top and a sexy leather lace-up skirt with a button-down shirt. —N.
