L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Tart

For Fall 2007, Tart designer Sherry Wood said she wanted to craft a collection for a woman who can be at once bold, yet balance her daring with a cosmopolitan style.

Simplicity might be another ingredient. All of Tart’s garments are made from micro-Modal jersey material. The 36-look Fall collection debuted March 19 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif.

The micro-Modal jersey provided an extensive palette for the wide variety of silhouettes in the collection. Wood showed halter tops, wrap dresses, pencil skirts, long gown-like dresses and even 1970s-style body suits. The show also included two looks from sister line Tart Intimates. Models carried handbags by Los Angeles designer Heather Hawkins.

The 6-year-old Tart is sold in 1,500 retailers across the United States, yet becoming a lifestyle brand may be in the future for this contemporary label. Jamie Finegold, the chief executive of Tart’s parent company, JD Fine & Co., based in Concord, Calif., said that in the next five years, he hopes to manufacture many products under the Tart banner, including eyewear and accessories. —Andrew Asch
