New Guy at Gap

Trying to turn around lackluster sales at its Gap stores, Gap Inc. in San Francisco has snagged a former Paco Rabanne designer as the new executive vice president of design for Gap Adult and gapbody.

Patrick Robinson will oversee all elements of design for Gap women’s and men’s apparel, accessories and intimate apparel, the company said.

Robinson comes to the Gap from Paco Rabanne in Paris, where he had been artistic director since 2005. Most recently, he designed a limited-edition collection for Target’s “Go International” initiative.

Previously, the Parsons School of Design graduate worked in design at Perry Ellis and Anne Klein. Robinson joins Gap on May 29.

Robinson comes to the company months after Paul Pressler departed in January as the company’s president and chief executive. The company’s profits declined considerably in fiscal 2007, totaling $778 million compared to $1.1 billion in fiscal 2006.—D.B.
