The U.S. Department of Commerce announced recently it would not self-initiate any apparel investigations of Vietnamese-made clothing imported into the United States. However, the government will continue the monitoring program that ascertains whether Vietnamese-made clothing is being dumped on the U.S. market at a cheaper price than in Vietnam. The monitoring program went into effect early this year after Vietnam joined the World Trade Organization, which promotes free trade among its 151 member countries.
