Fashion Blog Coutorture Trades Hands

San Francisco–based Sugar Inc. has acquired the online fashion community Coutorture (www.coutorture.com) for an undisclosed sum.

Coutorture, previously owned by Coutorture Media, operates about 230 style blogs and Web sites covering fashion, beauty and fragrances. The site serves as a resource for designers, retailers, media and other industry professionals.

Julie Fredrickson, founder and editor in chief of Coutorture Media, will continue in that role. Co-founder Phil Leif will serve as a senior engineer at Sugar Inc.

“Coutorture has spent the past year and a half building a network of the most well-respected and honored fashion and beauty blogs. This begins a new chapter for Coutorture and our member blogs, enabling us to better serve our many talented independent publishers, strengthen our hold on the marketplace and work closely with Sugar Inc. properties,” Fredrickson said in a statement.

Sugar Inc. founder Brian Sugar said the addition “will provide us with the opportunity to further integrate fashion and technology, while providing readers with access to a network of high-end fashion blogs.”

The company owns a number of Web sites, including PopSugar (popsugar.com), BellaSugar (bellasugar.com), FitSugar (fitsugar.com) and FabSugar (fabsugar.com). The year-old company is funded by Sequoia Capital and NBC Universal Fund, among others.—Robert McAllister
