L.A. Fashion Week Spring '08: Joseph Domingo

Joseph Domingo cut hemlines shorter and dipped V-necks lower than his usual for his Spring 2008 fashion show on Oct. 15 during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif. “For Spring and Summer, everyone wants to show a little more skin,” said Domingo, who was inspired by “strong women that are feminine at the same time” for his “Goddess” collection. Details from metallic gold braided straps on a liquid-gold swimsuit to a belt of gold leaves on strapless pleated column gown brought a classic Grecian mood to the collection. Others pieces were inspired by goddesses of a different sort, such as a blush pink “Modern Marilyn” mini-dress modeled after Marilyn Monroe’s white halter dress in “The Seven Year Itch.”

The San Francisco–based designer’s tailored separates in textured brocade and sandy gold retained the sophisticated quality apropos for his clientele of working women. He added a youthful and sexy spirit to the ensembles through pairing a cropped jacket in gold brocade with short shorts.

For Domingo’s men’s sportswear, the muse was simply himself. Encompassing a shiny laminated gold cotton jacket to a pin-striped denim jacket with sporty mustard trim, Domingo’s menswear satisfied the fashionably adventurous to carefree male customer. —Rhea Cortado
