Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim/Cruise 2009: Syla by Sylvie Cachay

Sylvie Cachay’s signature vintage-inspired prints created the look of her 2009 Syla collection. For 2009, Cachay translated her signature look and classic silhouettes into three wildly different themes shown July 18 on the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim at The Raleigh hotel in Miami Beach, Fla. A waspy, glamour diva was Cachay’s muse for the Spring collection. Sassy bows, retro silhouettes and breezy tunics were complemented by punchy orchid and deco rosebud prints. Next, juicy tropical colors and earth tones such as antique cream, orange, fuchsia and brown translated into a sexed-up 1970s-inspired hippie-chic look for Summer. Bold florals and graphic prints mixed with solid tones decorating bikinis and halter dresses. And Cachay’s recent interest in rock ’n’ roll music—including The White Stripes, the Kings of Leon and The Kills—inspired a finale with a slight punk-rock edge. “I’ve never used black ever before in a collection—much to everyone’s frustration,” Cachay said. “I said this time it was my thing and I’m going to go for it.” —N.J.S.
