Los Angeles–based maternity brand Momzee has opened a showroom in the Gerry Building in Los Angeles. After a stint selling through multi-line reps, Chief Executive Officer Lavinia Mirzakhanian decided to branch out and open a corporate showroom that would put more focus on the brand.

Momzee is not the maternity line your mother wore, Mirzakhanian said. The 4-year-old label is contemporary and fashion-forward, featuring lots of proprietary prints and an emphasis on fit. Mirzakhanian started the company because she saw a void in cool maternity clothes when she was pregnant.

“A lot of non-maternity stores buy us,” Mirzakhanian said, adding that the company’s button-fly jeans have won several awards for design and fit. They have been featured on the cover of Fit Pregnancy magazine and in other publications. Other categories include dresses, loungewear, tops and skirts. Clients include Nordstrom and Bloomingdales.com.

“We’re very print-oriented,” Mirzakhanian said. “We use lots of Supima jersey fabrics, and we produce year round, so we deliver something new every month.”

The showroom will also carry the company’s infant-wear line, BioBaby, which features all-organic and vegetable-dyed fabrics.

Wholesale price points are $24 to $68 for Momzee and $14 to $60 for BioBaby. Both lines are manufactured in Los Angeles.

“We’re totally vertical. We can do turnarounds in three weeks,” Mirzakhanian said.

The company leased the Gerry Building space on a temporary basis but has an option for a permanent lease. The company plans to stage its own shows and presentations as well as participate in trade shows, including Mom2B, to be held Oct. 17–19 at the California Market Center. “We have a corner showroom with white lacquered mannequins, stainless-steel fixtures and black-and-white leather sofas. It’s a great space,” Mirzakhanian said. —Robert McAllister
