A recent survey by New York–based Panjiva, a company that provides information on global suppliers, found that the number of suppliers “actively serving the U.S. [apparel] market” has dropped 70 percent between July and October. According to Panjiva’s findings, the number of companies actively producing apparel for the U.S. market dropped from 22,099 in July to 6,262 in October. Of the remaining factories, 40 percent are listed on Panjiva’s “watch list,” which lists companies whose shipments to the United States have dropped 75 percent or more in the past year.
