Costume Guild Names Honorees

The Costume Designers Guild announced this year’s honorees and nominees for the group’s 10th annual Costume Designers Guild Awards, set for Feb. 19 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Actress Anjelica Huston will host the event, which has lined up Swarovski as the presenting sponsor.

A new award, the “Swarovski President’s Award,” will be given to Paula Wagner, co-owner and chief executive officer of United Artists Entertainment LLC and producer of “The Last Samurai” and the “Mission: Impossible” films. Director James Mangold and producing partner Cathy Konrad, producers of “3:10 to Yuma” and “Walk the Line,” will receive the “Distinguished Director/Producer Award.”

Costume designer Ruth Myers will receive the “Lacoste Career Achievement in Film Award” for her work, including “Emma” and “The Addams Family.” Academy Award– and Emmy-nominated costume designer Ray Aghayan will receive the “Career Achievement in Television Award.”

The Guild will also announce the winners of its annual awards, including the “Excellence in Contemporary Film Award.” Nominees include “Blades of Glory” designer Julie Weiss, “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” designer Olivier Beacute;riot, “Into the Wild” designer Mary Claire Hannan, “Juno” designer Monique Prudhomme and “Ocean’s 13” designer Louise Frogley.

The nominees for the “Excellence in Period Film Award” include Jacqueline Durran for “Atonement”; Alexandra Byrne for “Elizabeth: The Golden Age”; Colleen Atwood for “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”; Arianne Phillips for “3:10 to Yuma”; and Marit Allen, who was nominated posthumously for her work on “La Vie en Rose.”

Vying for the “Excellence in Fantasy Film Award” are Mona May for “Enchanted,” Ruth Myers for “The Golden Compass,” Jany Temime for “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” Penny Rose for “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” and Michael Wilkinson for “300.”

In the television category, “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” designer Mario Davignon, “Jane Eyre” designer Andrea Galer, and “The Starter Wife” team of Marion Boyce (costume designer) and Debra McGuire (designer for Debra Messing) have been nominated for the “Outstanding Made for Television Movie or Mini Series Award.”

Chrisi Karvonides-Dushenko (“Big Love”), Randall Christensen(“Dancing with the Stars”), Amy Westcott (“Entourage”), Juliet Polcsa (“The Sopranos”) and Eduardo Castro (“Ugly Betty”) are nominated for the “Outstanding Contemporary Television Series Award.”

For the “Outstanding Period/Fantasy Television Series Award,” nominees include Robert Blackman (“Pushing Daisies”), April Ferry (“Rome”) and Joan Bergin (“The Tudors”).

In addition, the nominees for the “Excellence in Commercial Costume Design Award” include Beth Pasternak for American Express (“Member’s Project”), Melissa Bruning for Burger King (“The Nutcracker”) and Deborah Ferguson for Capitol One (“Princess Kiss”).

The Costume Designers Guild was founded in 1953 but only started holding its own awards ceremony in 1998.
