Former Disney Executive Named MAGIC President

Former Disney executive Chris DeMoulin has been named president of Woodland Hills, Calif.–based MAGIC International and vice president of the fashion group for New York–based Advanstar Communications Inc., MAGIC’s parent company. Chris DeMoulin is replacing Laura McConnell, who left Advanstar in September 2007.

MAGIC International operates the MAGIC Marketplace trade show, held twice a year in Las Vegas.

In his new post, DeMoulin will focus on strengthening the alliances between exhibitors and retailers by developing initiatives to increase value and create more opportunities to write business.

DeMoulin previously was senior vice president of retail alliances for Disney’s consumerproducts group, a position in which he was responsible for the strategic planning and execution of all business and product development for Disney licensing in North America.

He also was vice president of marketing for Walden Media, a film company that produced “The Chronicles of Narnia” and the current release “The Water Horse, Legend of the Deep.”

“Both exhibitors and retailers attend the MAGIC Marketplace to form v a luable bus ines s relationships, and Chris’ strong ba ckground in developing alliances with both fashion manufacturers and retailers makes him the ideal candidate to lead this charge,” said MAGIC’s Chief Executive Officer Joe Loggia in a statement. —Robert McAllister
