L.A. Fashion Week Fall '08: Yotam Solomon

For his sophomore collection, Yotam Solomon zeroed-in on the Los Angeles lifestyle and climate for inspiration. His muse, “the beautiful universe and the stars and the sky,” was interpreted into futuristic pattern lines and a juxtaposition of textures, seen March 10 at the Nuni Gallery in Los Angeles.

Solomon said he chose light fabrics for Fall ’08 to complement Southern California’s mild weather. Fitted dresses dominated in a color-blocked palette of shiny eggplant, burnt orange and midnight blue.

The heartiest knits were introduced as side panels on a woven skirt and jacket set. Solomon paid special attention to the shoulders through skin-baring geometric cutouts and variations on pronounced cap sleeves that had a futuristic feel.

The 20-year-old Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising graduate also customized the shoes, which he described as “more simple” to go with the clothing. One pair of heels had columns of chiffon jutting from the sides of the T-strap like a ruffled tuxedo bib. —Rhea Cortado
