L.A. Fashion Week Fall '08: Bow and Arrow by Alan Del Rosario

Designer Alan del Rosario, best known in Los Angeles for his red carpet–ready evening gowns, showed Bow and Arrow, his diffusion line of young contemporary separates March 11 during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif.

Inspired by the fashion of the 1950s through the 1980s, del Rosario showed iconic pieces with a modern, youthful edge.

Sticking to a palette of mainly black and white, with a few pops of neon pink or smoky gray, del Rosario focused on the details. A white anorak featured cropped sleeves and a very “now” bubble hem. A little black “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” dress felt fresh with a white color block. Buttons acted as polka dots on the hem of a ’70s A-line skirt. A beatnik smock dress got a dose of sex appeal with a gauze collar. A black duster featured fluttery cotton cut into scallops to mimic feathers.—Erin Barajs
