L.A. Fashion Week Fall '08: Shane and Falguni Peacock

The Indian husband-and-wife design team of Shane and Falguni Peacock sent a riot of animal-inspired prints, jewels, satin and velvet down the runway at its March 11 show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif.

The line’s satin and velvet cocktail dresses and gowns, ensconced firmly in the “more is more” aesthetic, featured mixed prints, plunging necklines and up-to-there slits paired with jeweled appliqueacute;s, feathered brooches, embroidery and sheets of sequins.

Standouts in the exotic Fall 2008 collection include voluminous jodhpurs, a scarf-print tailored shift and a flowing, floor-length halter dress perfect for a modern day Joni Mitchell. Off-kilter glamour seemed to be the end goal. Asymmetry, in hemlines and necklines, made for interesting silhouettes while a cacophony of prints (from peacock to zebra and chains, leopard and geometric) kept the eyes whirring.—Erin Barajas
