L.A. Fashion Week Fall '08: Farah Angsana Couture

The sensuality of the tango and the drama of Francisco de Goya’s black paintings were channeled into the proverbial black cocktail dress for Farah Angsana’s debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif.

The Paris-based Angsana presented her Fall 2008 collection, which she dubbed “Goya’s Tango,” on March 13. The event started with a spirited tango dance performed by Alex da Silva. The moody black hues of Goya’s paintings inspired the colors of Angsana’s dresses such as the “Sophia,” a black silk chiffon pleated dress with a bubble hem and sequin detail. There also was the “Raevan,” a black seamed duchess satin dress.

The collection also included tango dresses and a red gown with black lace, which seemed to be inspired by traditional Spanish costume.Other looks—including the “Sarah Deanna,” a green duchess dress with sequins—seemed to glide by the Latin themes of the collection, while not taking a dive into the category. —Andrew Asch
