The Los Angeles Fashion District Business Improvement District is launching a recycling program in conjunction with E-Tec = Environmental Technologies, LLC to recover materials such as paper, cardboard, hangers, strapping material, film and other recyclables.
More than 4,000 businesses are located within the 90-square-block district and consume materials that can be recycled but instead reach landfills because the city does not have a formal recycling program for commercial businesses, noted Kent Smith, executive director of the Fashion District BID.
E-Tech will be collecting materials with its white trucks on a regular basis beginning April 14. Building owners will be coordinating collection programs in the coming weeks.
“This is a win-win situation for everybody, including the environment,” Smith said. For more information, visit www.fashiondistrict.org or E-Tec at (310) 345-7708. —R.M.
