REI Sets Its Social Priorities

Seattle-based outdoor apparel and equipment retailer Recreational Equipment Inc., better known as REI, released its second annual stewardship report, which outlines the cooperative company’s social and environmental priorities and efforts over the last year. Among the report’s highlights: REI raised and donated $3.5 million for local and national nonprofit organizations; REI’s Bedford, Pa., distribution center received the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Silver certification for new construction; and the company launched a new Web site and logo to help identify REI’s branded products made from recycled, renewable and/or organic materials.
