Frederick's Linda LoRe Honored

Frederick’s of Hollywood’s Linda LoRe received the first “Visionary Award” from the Youth Mentoring Connection nonprofit group at The Beverly Hills Hotel on May 20.

LoRe, who is also a founding board member of the Youth Mentoring Connection, became president and chief executive officer of Frederick’s of Hollywood in 1999. She helped revitalize the brand through reorganization and the emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2003. Frederick’s of Hollywood now has more than 135 retail stores nationwide.

Los Angeles–based Youth Mentoring Connection matches “at-risk” youth with adult mentors through a variety of different programs such as school-site mentoring, youthcenter programs and life-skills workshops. Current worksite mentoring partners include HBO, Los Angeles World Airports, Rhino Entertainment, Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel, Shout! Factory and Warner Bros. Studios. Other notable YMC board members from the fashion industry include Lyn Tobman, department chair of the visual communications and marketing departments at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.

The Celebration of Mentoring Awards and gala was hostedby CBS morning news co-anchor Suzanne Rico and featured a performance by Thelma Houston. Honorees in past years have included producer Cash Warren, NBA player Baron Davis and professional skateboarder Stacy Peralta.

“My sister Linda and I started Youth Mentoring Connection with the vision of truly making a difference in the lives of children who did not have anyone to trust or believe in them,” said YMC founder and President Tony LoRe in a statement. “Linda and all of our honorees inspire others in our society to ask what they can do to give back. The result is lives saved, violence reduced and kids going to college that wouldn’t have even graduated high school in the past.”—Rhea Cortado
