Tukatech to Be Featured in New Textbook

Veteran patternmaking instructor Helen J. Armstrong is going digital.

The author and fashion instructor from Los Angeles Trade Technical College will include a section on digital patternmaking in the latest edition of her popular textbook, “Patternmaking for Fashion Design.”

The book will feature an instructional DVD highlighting patternmaking techniques using TUKAdesign CAD software from Los Angeles–based Tukatech Inc. The DVD is designed to teach students how to create basic blocks (front and back bodices, sleeves, and skirts) using computer-aided design (CAD).

Armstrong collaborated on the project with Tukatech Research and Development Manager Harry Wessels. Armstrong has taught manual patternmaking for more than 30 years and is one of the industry’s leading authorities on patternmaking. She was a sportswear designer for almost 20 years and is also a consultant and lecturer.

Her book is published by Prentice Hall and covers all aspects of pattern design. It is one of the most widely used texts in fashion colleges around the world, having been published in more than five editions since 1985.

Tukatech software is used in more than 150 fashion schools and is now used by students on a rental basis for $25 per month. For more information, visit www.tukatech.com. —Robert McAllister
