Big Dog Goes Small
By the year 2009, there won’t be any more Big Dog retail stores in the country. Big Dog, which changed its name earlier this year to The Walking Company Holdings and is headquartered in Santa Barbara, said it has reached agreements with almost all of its landlords to close its remaining 71 stores. At its peak, there were 231 stores in the Big Dog chain, which sold activewear, sportswear, accessories and gifts with the image of a large St. Bernard dog. By the end next January, there will be six to eight stores that will then liquidate their inventory.
