L.A. Fashion Week Spring '09: D'Amore by Marceau

Caroline D’Amore couldn’t make the Oct. 14 debut of D’Amore by Marceau at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif. She was filming a movie on the East Coast, but the model-turned-designer had plenty of support in her absence. Friends and fans Kim and Kourtney Kardashian were on hand, as were Mena Suvari, Slade Smiley, Jo Deo La Rosa and Chetney Ross (Diane’s daughter).

The star power, no doubt, helps bring some attention to the blossoming swimwear collection, designed mostly by co-founder Laurent Planeix. As for the garments themselves, they would have no problem standing out poolside or on the beach at any global resort. They have a luxe appeal with glossy candy striping in black and silver as well as zebra prints and metallic-gold polka dots shown on one-piece halters and keyhole cutouts.

Sexier Brazilian-cut bikinis as well as an array of snakeskin and ’80s-inspired sublimation prints rounded out the collection. Planeix played with some of the constructions by twisting up the mid-sections of some of the one-piece halter suits. He also featured some asymmetrical cuts on one-piece suits as well as various cutout designs intended to highlight curvier forms. Most of the suits were made with a satin/spandex combo. Some also featured lace detailing.—Robert McAllister
