L.A. Fashion Week Spring '09: Yotam Solomon

Young designer Yotam Solomon showed his Spring 2009 collection Oct. 17 at BoxEight in Los Angeles to an audience packed with supporters. The Israeli designer, now working out of his Encino, Calif., headquarters, went for amped-up sex appeal on the runway.

Inspired by Los Angeles’ plethora of swimming pools, Solomon sought to create a collection that captured the appearance of water and reflected light. “This city has the most swimming pools,” he said. “It's a great luxury and reflects L.A. culture and I wanted to capture that.”

Leather straps binding arms to bodies, cutouts, pleats, sheer overlays, layers of ruching, asymmetrical sleeves and hem lines, and a fabric that resembled cascading ruffles all found their way onto Solomon’s designs—few of which descended beyond the mid-thigh.

Solomon, who has always designed the shoes featured in his shows, also created the sky-high platform stilettos that complemented this season's collection. —Erin Barajas
