Valley Fair Lands Bloomie's, Neiman's

Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus will join current anchors Macy’s and Nordstrom at Westfield’s Valley Fair mall in San Jose, Calif., when the shopping center completes a 500,000-square-foot expansion project in fall 2011.

The addition will make Valley Fair one of the few shopping centers in the country with four anchors.

The new Bloomingdale’s will be a threelevel store covering 150,000 square feet. Neiman Marcus is developing a two-level, 120,000-square-foot store. Both anchors will be located on the south entrance to the mall between two existing Macy’s units. Construction is expected to begin in January.

Another 70 new retailers and several restaurants are also part of the expansion plan, according to Westfield, based in Los Angeles. Upon completion, the mall will have more than 2 million square feet, with close to 350 stores. Average sales at Valley Fair are currently running about $830 per square foot, making it one of the top-selling malls in the country, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers. It is the No. 2 performing center in Westfield’s portfolio behind its shopping center in Los Angeles’ Century City neighborhood. —Robert McAllister
