Fashion Week El Paseo

Editor’s note: When I heard that my friend, designer and “Project Runway” alum Raymundo Baltazar was planning to attend Fashion Week El Paseo, I asked him to give ApparelNews.net the scoop on the week, the designers—Juan Carlos Obando and Jade Howe!—and the scene in the desert. Here’s his report.

PALM DESERT, CALIF.—The City of Palm Desert held its ground in the competitive world of Fashion Weeks with its own El Paseo Fashion Week—held March 23–29—in the tony community neighboring Palm Springs.

The city is located east of Los Angeles by way of a two-hour drive on the always-congested 10 freeway. Flocks of fashion enthusiasts descended on the community—known as the Rodeo Drive of the desert—to attend the weeklong parade of ready-to-wear collections.

The schedule wasn’t as crowded as New York, Paris, London or even Los Angeles, but it definitely had a wide range, including some amazing budding talent such as Fashion Institute of Design Merchandising’s Lacey Osberg, Adrian Manuel and Clay Sadler. The week also featured established designers Juan Carlos Obando and Jade Howe, as well as a few outstanding jewelry designers, including Tarina Tarantino and Gabriela Artigas.

So, I printed the schedule, packed the sun block, my beloved DG swimming trunks, a few suitcases of clothes/accessories/shoes, and it was Palm Desert or bust!
