New Resources Guide: Sweet Petites

Sweet Petites Apparel and its misses sister line, Sweet Physiques, launched in 2008 with the shorter woman in mind—more specifically, the women under 5 feet, 4 inches.

“There isn’t a day when I don’t talk to a petite woman who says, ’I had to cut off 5 inches from my pant legs for something to fit,’” said founder Elizabeth Dutra, who is 5 feet, 1 inch, an avid exerciser and lives in La Jolla, Calif.

Dutra’s line of form-fitting activewear outfits is made of DryFlex, a fabric that wicks moisture away from the body. Pants come in low-rise versions and more traditional-rise silhouettes to accentuate a woman’s curves. The line also includes some sportswear outfits with wrap tops and tennis-like dresses. In addition, she has an eco-collection of jumpsuits made of bamboo fabric. Currently, everything is carried online at her Web site, www.mysweetpetites.com.

Her designs are very figure-flattering. “We did a lot of research and development on that petite frame,” Dutra said. —Deborah Belgum
