Just in time for August market, David Kahn Jeanswear moved into The New Mart on July 5.

Owner David Kahn said he moved into The New Mart because he believed the place was a strong destination for buyers from contemporary stores.

Beverly Hills interior designer Carol Weinschenker gave a warm loft feeling to the 1,200-square-foot showroom, and much of the space is devoted to the women’s premium-denim line. David Kahn Jeanswear sells at Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s. Wholesale priced from $79 to $98, the jeans feature a tailored silhouette and stretch fabrications, which help differentiate the jeans in a crowded market, according to a showroom representative.

David Kahn Jeanswear is constructed out of Japanese and Italian denim and are tailored to fit women’s curves. The jeans’ stretch is given by the 2 percent Lycra blended into the pants’ fabric.

The showroom also offers other contemporary lines. T-shirt line O by Nally has wholesale price points from $15 to $25. Contemporary collection Nally and Millie offers wholesale price points of $29 to $44. Privileged tees, another contemporary line, is priced from $19 to $29. Accessories line Tolani Scarves ranges in wholesale price from $29 to $49.

The showroom is part of a new wave of sleek, contemporary spaces that have opened at the stylish building since the recession started last year. The New Mart General Manager Ethan Eller said new showrooms such as David Kahn Jeanswear are signs that better economic times are coming.

For the past decade, there was no vacancy at The New Mart. However, since economic troubles started in August 2008, The New Mart has lost 20 tenants, which makes up 10 percent of the building, or 25,000 square-feet of space.

Still, the building opened 10 new showrooms in the past year, including five that debuted this summer, said Eller, who forecast that the building will be full again by December. —Andrew Asch
