Princess Grace, Cartier Honored at Walk of Style

It’s a match made in heaven: Princess Grace, Cartier and Rodeo Drive.

The Rodeo Drive Committee and the city of Beverly Hills will honor the late Princess Grace of Monaco and French jeweler Cartier with the Rodeo Walk of Style Award this fall.

The award, now in its sixth year, honors “style legends for their contributions to the worlds of fashion and entertainment.”

A ceremony is planned for Oct. 22, and Princess Grace’s son Prince Albert II will accept the award on behalf of his family.

The event will benefit the Princess Grace Foundation-USA, which awards scholarships, apprenticeships and fellowships to theater, dance and film artists in America, and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, an environmental group that encourages “the implementation of innovative and ethical solutions in…climate change, safeguarding biodiversity and access to water.”

Academy Award–winning actress Grace Kelly is remembered for her stylish performances in films such as “Rear Window,” “To Catch a Thief” and “High Society.” In 1956, she left Hollywood to marry Prince Rainier III of Monaco, becoming Princess Grace of Monaco. Prince Rainier gave Kelly a 10.47-carat platinum Cartier ring as an engagement ring, which she wore in "High Society,” which was her final screen performance.

Founded in 1847 in Paris, Cartier was proclaimed, “Jeweller of Kings and King of Jewellers” by Edward VII, Prince of Wales who named the company the supplier to the King of England. The company later received similar titles from Spain, Portugal, Russia, Greece, Belgium, Romania, Egypt and Monaco.

Princess Grace and Cartier join a distinguished group of honorees, including Valentino Garavani, Manolo Blahnik, James Galanos, Gianni and Donatella Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo, Edith Head, James Acheson, Milena Canonero, Herb Ritts, Mario Testino, Tom Ford, and Giorgio Armani.

Rodeo Drive is the luxury centerpiece of Beverly Hills, whose retailers include international brands and independent shops. The city’s retailers help the city generate more than $1.3 billion in sales and draw an estimated 5 million visitors annually, according to city officials.
