Project Runway Proves Good Guys Win

Images of Project Runway contestant Johnny Sakalis breaking down danced over a TV screen at downtown Los Angeles nightclub Remedy Lounge. Some 500 feet away from the screen at the nightclub’s Project Runway party, Los Angeles fashion designer David Alexander had this advice for the show’s contestants. Alexander’s message? Behave!

“Be careful how you act,” Alexander said. “Fashion is like celebrity endorsements. People buy your clothes, but they are also buying you.” Otherwise, no one wants to buy fashion from a swaggering loudmouth.

Sounds OK, but does good behavior make for good reality television? Does minding your manners make for winners on reality shows? Perhaps.

In last night’s “Project Runway All-Star Challenge” special, the nice guys did win—with Season 2 nice guy Daniel Vosovic taking home the $100,000 prize. Meanwhile, while two of the series’ most outspoken designers—Season 2’s Santino Rice and Season 3 winner Jeffrey Sebelia—ended up among the first to hear Heidi Klum’s signature send-off, “Auf Wiedersehen.”

The Remedy Lounge party saw appearances by actor Paul Cruz, who appeared in the 2009 Jamie Foxx film The Soloist, and fashion man about town Bobby Trendy, who must have been in a renaissance mood. He was dressed in doublet style coat reminiscent of the renaissance gentlemen and a feathered hat with a veil. Trendy said Los Angeles designer Merlin Castell made the jacket and hat. – With contributions from Alison A. Nieder.
