Think Local, Buy Local at Scissors Trade Show

Does the apparel industry need another trade show? Well, if you're looking for goods from local talent that are produced locally and available immediately, the answer is yes.

The first Scissors mini trade show, highlighting fashion and accessories, takes place from 10a.m. to 4 p.m on Aug. 22. at the Old Flair Building, 722 E. Washington Blvd. (at San Pedro) in Los Angeles.

About 10 exhibitors will be on hand showing contemporary women’s wear, menswear and accessories, said event coordinators Edward Molina and Rocio Evenett of Unlimited Design Services, a technical-services company for the apparel industry.

“We have been seeing a lot of smaller companies struggling and having trouble showing their lines at the bigger shows because of the expense involved,” said Evenett.

Added Molina: "As a designer, I know that finding an affordable show where they can promote their products can get very costly and it could be prohibitively expensive for a lot of new brands, but as a buyer I know that it can be challenging to find novelty items that are available as Immediates.”

Unlimited Design Services has offices in Los Angeles and London. The company provides services such as pattern- making, tech pack creation, sample-making, etc.

“We have evolved into more of a consultant or an incubator,” explained Evenett. “We have helped a lot of entrepreneurs launch their lines and wanted to add an affordable venue too.”

Booth rentals are $150. The shows plan to run monthly. The next one will take place on Sept. 19. For information, e-mail Evenett or Molina at development@unlimiteddesignservices.com or visit unlimiteddesignservices.com.
