Fashion District Gets a Makeover

Shoppers in Los Angeles' Fashion District have seen improvements to Santee Alley, bus stops and even sidewalks thanks to a project spearheaded by the Los Angeles Fashion District. The $1.3 million project culminated this month with the installation of custom crosswalks at the corners of Los Angeles and Olympic and Main Street and Olympic. In total, 12 intersections received special treatment.

Kent Smith, executive director of the L.A. Fashion District, said the changes were all made to make the district's streets more pedestrian-friendly. One key change was the repaving of popular Santee Alley. Trees were also planted in the district to make it a more welcoming shopping destination.

A second phase of the project, which will target Los Angeles Street, is expected to begin its planning stage in 2010.
