Feeling the Pinch at ASAP

This season, the ASAP Global Sourcing Show set up its exhibition off the main corridor of The Venetian with a lineup of 11 exhibitors from Korea; Macau, China; Hong Kong; Pakistan; and India.

Exhibitors showed a range of product, including embellished sportswear, lingerie and denim.

This was the second time at ASAP for Jason Woo, general manager of Ningbo Fenghua Fashion Chain Co. Ltd., an 18-year-old family-owned company based in China’s Ningbo province that manufactures prints and embroiders knitted apparel.

“It was very quiet,” said Woo, who described most of the retailers and manufacturers in attendance as “small, not famous.” Because Ningbo Fenghua Fashion already works with U.S. companies based on the East Coast, Woo was hoping the show would be an opportunity to meet with West Coast manufacturers and brands.

“It’s not bad, but it’s not so good—the market is very tough,” said Diego Xie, who was exhibiting Shanghai, China–based United Asian Partners Ltd., a 15-year-old vertical company that manufactures trend-driven fashion items for the juniors market.

The company already does business with brands in Japan, Europe and South America and is looking to expand its customer base in the United States. —Alison A. Nieder
