CDG Announces Nominees

The nominees for the 11th annual Costume Designers Guild Awards have been announced by the Costume Designers Guild.

The winners of this year’s awards will be revealed at the awards gala to be held on Feb. 17 at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Debra Messing will host the event, and for the fifth consecutive year, Swarovski will be the presenting sponsor.

In addition to the costume-design awards, the “Swarovski President’s Award” will be presented to Michael Douglas, and 10-time Emmy Award–winning director James Burrows will be honored with the “Distinguished Collaborator Award.” Van Broughton Ramsey will receive the “Career Achievement in Television Award,” and Marilyn Vance will receive the “Lacoste Career Achievement in Film Award.”

Costume designers will receive awards at the gala for a variety of categories in the field of feature film, television and commercial costume design. For “Excellence in Contemporary Film,” the nominees include “Slumdog Millionaire” designer Suttirat Larlarb, “Iron Man” designers Laura Jean Shannon and Rebecca Bentjen, “Sex and the City” designer Patricia Field, “Mamma Mia!” designer Ann Roth, and “The Wrestler” designer Amy Westcott.

Vying for the “Excellence in Period Film” award are Danny Glicker for “Milk,” Michael O’Connor for “The Duchess,” Albert Wolsky for “Revolutionary Road,” Deborah Hopper for “Changeling” and Jacqueline West for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”

And nominees for the “Excellence in Fantasy Film” award include Lindy Hemming for “The Dark Knight,” Isis Mussenden for “Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” and Sanja Milkovic Hays for “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.”

In the television category, an award will be given for “Outstanding Contemporary Television Series.” Nominees include “30 Rock” designer Tom Broecker, “Dancing With the Stars” designer Randall Christensen, “Ugly Betty” designers Eduardo Castro and Patricia Field, “Gossip Girl” designer Eric Daman, and quot;Entouragequot; designer Amy Westcott.

In addition, “Mad Men” designer Katherine Jane Bryant, “The Tudors” designer Joan Bergin and “Pushing Daisies” designer Robert Blackman have been nominated for “Outstanding Period/Fantasy Television Series.”

Nominees for “Outstanding Made for Television Movie or Mini Series” include Donna Zakowska for “John Adams,” Stefano De Nardis for “Coco Chanel,” Jenny Beavan for “Cranford” (a “Masterpiece Theatre” production), Joseph Aulisi for “Bernard and Doris” and Michele Clapton for “Sense and Sensibility.”

Designers nominated for “Excellence in Commercial Costume Design” include Donna Zakowska for Nike’s “Fate,” Casey Storm for the California Fluid Milk Processor Board’s “White Gold” and Kym Barrett for Levi’s “HIS.” The Costume Designers Guild, founded in 1953, has more than 700 members today, including motion picture, television and commercial costume designers and assistant costume designers and illustrators from around the world. —N.
