Funeral Services Scheduled for Husband of Boutique Owner Lisa Kline

Robert Bryson, husband of pioneering boutique owner Lisa Kline, died in an early-morning accident at his home.

Bryson, 40, fell from a balcony at the couple’s Malibu, Calif., home at about 1:20 a.m. on Jan. 22 and died soon after hitting a table below.

Investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department conducted an autoposy and toxicology report. “Today police officials have confirmed that Robert Bryson died after suffering a massive injury to the chest sustained during a fall early Thursday morning,” according to a statement released by Lisa Kline on Jan. 26.

According to friends, Kline and her husband had gone to bed Wednesday night. Sometime after 1 a.m., Kline heard a loud noise and awoke to find her husband gone. She and a live-in housekeeper searched the house and discovered Bryson eight minutes later on the front patio, said Jason Weitman, who has known Bryson since their college days at Western State College in Gunnison, Colo.

Bryson had fallen 12 feet from the balcony onto a front patio table, breaking his ribs and puncturing his lungs, Weitman said.

Bryson was known as an outgoing individual who loved life and sports. He was an avid skier, hunter and fisherman, Weitman said.

“Bob was my other brother. I would go skiing and fishing with him,” said Weitman, who is head of Y3K Tri Millenium, which makes garment labels, hangtags, stickers and promotional items for the apparel industry. “He was the ultimate best friend.”

Bryson worked as vice president of Lisa Kline Inc., which has three stores on the fashion-forward Robertson Boulevard and one on Beverly Drive. He also built the retailer’s e-commerce business at www.lisakline.com.

In 2002, Bryson started Remote Retailer, a company that provides stores and boutiques with point-of-sale software for their transactions as well as video cameras for on-site and remote surveillance.

Bryson and Kline, married since 2001, have two children, Dylan Rose and Colt Alexander. Bryson is also survived by his parents, Gene and Martha Bryson of Charlotte, N.C., and one brother, Dave, of Crested Butte, Colo.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m., Jan. 27, at Forest Lawn, located at 6300 Forest Lawn Drive in Los Angeles. —Deborah Belgum and Andrew Asch
