Tous is a retailer on the move. On June 8, the Spanish accessories manufacturer and retailer opened a 550-square-foot boutique at the Westfield Century City mall in Los Angeles’ Century City neighborhood. It is Tous’ sixth American store, said Jose Luis Manglano, chief executive of the company, which has more than 2,500 employees and 400 stores in 42 countries across the globe.

By the end of 2009, the company plans to open six more stores in the United States, and two of them will be located in Los Angeles.By 2014, Manglano plans to manage a fleet of 800 stores across the world and take in one billion euros in sales.

Manglano said the poor economy offered some advantages to entrepreneurs looking to launch and expand their businesses. “It is easier to find good associates for our stores,” Manglano said. “It is easier to get good locations with more affordable rents.” —Andrew Asch
