ANK by Mirla Sabino: Eco-Friendly and Ready for the Beach

Brazilian swimwear designer Mirla Sabino recently unveiled a collection of beach bags made from combinations of leather, straw and recycled rubber.

The bags made their debut on the runwayside-by-side with Sabino’s ANK swim and resortwear line during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami Beach, Fla. “I’ve been trying every year to use something recycled because I think you need to be concerned about what’s going on in the world,” Sabino said. “It’s really hard to implement that into a swimsuit because of the stretching—especially because we use all the fine fabrics.”

The designer found a group of craftspeople in Brazil to handcraft the bags—and the eco-friendly handbag line was born. Wholesale prices are $51 to $90. For more information, call (305) 371-7002. —N. Jayne Seward
