Representing everything from couture-inspired, rock ’n’ roll streetwear to eco intimates, Joken Style owner Eme Mizioch said no single label can define her showroom except for this: “It’s a one-stop shop.”
Instead of focusing on a niche, her 3-year-old showroom hopes to offer many things for a lot of different people. Mizioch’s choice of an eclectic path comes from her long experience in fashion showrooms. “All I did was listen to buyers complain about how they had to go to so many different showrooms to find different lines,” she said. To make her showroom the popular alternative, she planned to offer variety.
For the upcoming Los Angeles Fashion Market, her showroom will debut the ready-to-wear streetwear collection of Maggie Barry, the Los Angeles designer who has made costumes and casual fashions for rock stars such as Perry Farrell. Joken Style also will debut Urban Originals, an Australian accessories line.
One of her top-selling lines is Los Angeles–based Cali By Cal. This tops line offers women both comfort and beauty, Mizioch said. Each top features a built-in bra, which not only gives women a well-sculpted look but also enough support so they don’t need an additional bra.
Other lines include Gardena, Calif.–based Humanity For All, which offers social-message T-shirts with different graphics—including designs featuring cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants.
There’s W.E.T.T. Dry Goods, a New York–based sportswear line bearing novel appliqueacute;s and details; Zia, a rock-inspired tops line for women; and Rauml;nghauml;rt, a highly detailed T-shirt and hoodie line that sponsors rock musicians such as Toryn Green and mixed-martial-arts fighters such as Chuck Lidell. There’s also New York–based jeans-line MBlue Denim and Ecotosti, a women’s intimates line constructed out of bamboo. Mizioch aims for moderate price points. Wholesale prices range from $12 for accessories to $100 for Maggie Barry items. —Andrew Asch
