Dallas Market Center Cancels Designer Awards

The Dallas Market Center has cancelled its annual Dallas Fashion Awards, honoring fashion designers and companies. DMC officials cited feedback from exhibitors and manufacturers as the reason for canceling the gala, which also served as a charity fund-raiser.

The awards ceremony usually takes place in October and has been held every year since 1976. California companies made up a large percentage of the winners in recent years.

“Input from exhibitors and from manufacturers has led us to the conclusion that for the remainder of 2009 we should focus 100 percent of our resources on our core mission—bringing more buyers to market and providing the best market experience. We will re-evaluate the program at the end of the year,” said Cindy Morris, chief operating officer, in a statement. —Robert McAllister
