Quiksilver to Lay Off 168 More

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Huntington Beach, Calif.–based surf giant Quiksilver will lay off 168 employees, according to the California Economic Development Department’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN). The notice reports 153 workers will be let go on or by July 21 and another 15 jobs are scheduled to be eliminated on or by Oct. 1. This is the latest round of layoffs for Quiksilver, which cut more than 300 jobs in 2008 and slashed 200 jobs from its Americas division in January as part of cost-cutting measures.

“These [layoffs] are on top of the ones announced in January but in line with our strategy announced over one year ago, i.e., consolidating product to the Mira Loma [Calif.] distribution center and closing the screen-printing manufacturing operation,” Quiksilver spokesperson Joshua Katz wrote in an e-mail. —Erin Barajas
