New Resources Guide: Piper & Forest

If Lisa Izad’s Tylie Malibu sweatshirts, comfy boots and slouchy leather shoulder bags are what the SoCal beach chick wears on a lazy weekend after surfing, Izad’s new contemporary line, Piper & Forest, is what that girl dons for a night out.

“We kind of play up that ’70s-glam beach-girl thing,” said Izad, who started Tylie Malibu in 2000.

Piper & Forest also references the ’70s for inspiration, including icons such as Bianca Jagger, Diane von Furstenberg and Talitha Getty. The name of the line refers to two personas. Izad attributes Forest as herself and Piper to assistant designer, Nicole DeStefano. “Piper [is] more conservative, fun and playful, and Forest [is] dark and mysterious and edgy.”

For Fall, Izad cites a Malibu equestrian inspiration with nylon riding leggings, leather jackets and vests. Colors and prints in the Piper & Forest collection are inspired by the landscape of the California coastline, from rocky and sandy shades of brown to ombreacute; sunsets.

Piper & Forest has been sold to P.45 in Chicago; Bryan Lee in San Francisco; and Steev in Brooklyn, N.Y.—Rhea Cortado
